Why did I just receive a username and password?
Usernames and passwords are normal in any industry. They identify us on the network and allow us to protect our work. In addition, since Columbia County School System has moved forward with Microsoft Office 365, students use their password to access their work and email online. Students can also download and install up to five copies of Office Professional Plus 2016 on devices at home, providing you the ability to work offline if needed.
I can't access certain sites...
Neither can we. The Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) require the school system to protect students and teachers from accessing certain inappropriate material. While not a perfect technology, the school system does utilize a content filter to block certain websites. Remember, you signed an Acceptable Network Use Agreement at the beginning of the year.
Someone mentioned I can reset my own Password?
That is correct. The Columbia County School Sytem has a self-service password reset tool that allows students to reset there password from anywhere should they forget it. To utilize this service, the student must enroll and answer three security questions. For more information, contact your school Media Specialist for assistance.
What happens to my Office 365 account when I graduate or leave?
The students account is tied to the Columbia County School System through an automated process. Once the student is unenrolled or graduates, the account will become disabled for a period of 30 days, then removed. We strongly encourage our students to make a backup of their work to an external hard disk drive or thumb drive.
